Seattle SuperSonics are moving?

I dont follow the NBA like I have in the past - maybe due to the fact that my Bulls arent the yearly favorite. Im not saying the “Baby Bulls” arent good but I only have so much time and I love my NFL and College Football.

Back to the topic at hand - the Sonics are moving?

David Stern is trying to get government officials in the state of Washington to step up but it seems that it isnt going to happen. In an ESPN article it goes into detail about the back and forth, the new stadium, the looking-like-its-going-to-happen move to Oklahoma City and other ongoing drama.

One of the best quotes from the article that gets to one of the reasons behind the possible move was made by House Speaker Frank Chopp:

“They ought to get their own financial house in order when their payroll is over $50 million for, what is it, 10 players? I think that’s a little ridiculous,” Chopp said at the time. “They need to get their own financial house in order and if they did, they wouldn’t have to ask for public help.”

Actually Mr. Chopp the Sonics salary is just over $63 million which puts them #18 of 30 teams. This puts them $20 million higher then #30 and $20 million lower then #1 - talk about being in the middle. Also the roster has 14 players, not 10.

As far as high salaries, take a look at the NFL, NHL, MLB and compare salaries. Perhaps you and other government officials make too much money. Why is it that government officials can give themselves a raise when they obviously dont need it? The rate that government officials salaries have gone from in 2004 to 2007 is quite alarming itself.

There are many reasons for “why” NBA players get what they want but one new reason is to not only keep talent on a team but in the NBA. Im sure other players then just Chris Webber and Doug Christie have been offered contracts in Europe.

So back to the Sonics moving and my question of why Oklahoma City? I have no idea really other then to assume a nice shiny new stadium was promised. I would of guessed other major cities such as Las Vegas, San Jose, Columbus Ohio, Jacksonville or some other large city wouldnt have a shot?

In the end it all comes down to money and my guess is based on the way things are going the Sonics will soon be the Oklahoma City ?Sonics?. Which leads me to ask what division will they be in? The West still?

I think I’ll end on a high note: the Bulls won their first game of the season last night. :)
