Writers Guild of America Strike 2007

Unless you are living under a rock you know that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is currently on strike. This is putting the kabosh on TV shows and movies but I feel it is a good thing. You can read elsewhere about the sides (Studios vs Writers) and even follow some of the happenings on Twitter.

Recently James Denton from Desperate Housewives was doing an interview on a Chicago radio station and had some interesting things to say about it all. He brought up a great point that I have heard really nothing about: what about all the businesses in Hollywood?

What he was talking about was all the dry cleaning, caterers, props, sound, video, and all the others that are there to support the whole sitcom and movie making. These people either got sent home or are running small businesses that just took a major hit to their # of clients. Its good to see actors and actresses out supporting writers but who is out helping the others?

The best way to help them is to hurry up and end the strike or start ordering a lot of extra food and getting shirts laundered that dont even need it.
